Sustainable Development Foundation (SDF) is a non-profit, non-religious, non-political and non-governmental organization registered under society’s act 1860. It is a pool of researchers, scientists, implementers and policy scholars those believe in sustainable action for all spheres of life. SDF wish to turn out one new method after another, always combining multidimensional goals: sustainable livelihoods for the poor, health, education, literacy, Rural development, food security, poverty alleviation, enterprise development, climate change and regenerating the environment. SDF is committed with the concept of sustainable development; living within the limits of the natural environment and livelihoods without compromising the needs of future generations.
In the beginning; the focus of SDF was on research and surveys but with the passage of time, need for implementing innovative ideas was strongly realized. SDF is thriving to share innovative concepts with different funding agencies to ensure programmatic approach through acquiring long term funding / grants innovative development initiatives. SDF wishes to translate research into action through implementation because conventional development practices only increase gap between the haves and the have-nots. SDF aimed to develop such mechanisms and institutional systems, which are needed to achieve equitable and environmentally sound development. SDF will continue to lobby with governments and policy-makers, conduct research, influence policy makers, and work with business and industry to address global threats to the planet by seeking long-term solutions.
In Pakistan, more than half of the rural population is unemployed, underemployed or informally employed and on top of it they are not aware for their rights and basic needs of life. They need income generating jobs that provide them with economic security and with the products and services required to satisfy their basic needs, as well as appliances for their daily activities. At the same time, the industries that create these jobs and appliances must reduce the wasteful use of energy, water, forests and other natural resources. Modern industry cannot, and does not, address the needs of rural communities, and in any case requires heavy investment of capital, which is not available.
SDF emphasizes on building local capacities to meet the development challenges of the next era. Its belief is to help communities in search of sustainable solutions for their issues.
